Double bassist and composer Joris Vanvinckenroye explores and expands the boundaries of the double bass and viola da gamba in his solo project BASta!. On November 22, 2024, he will release his third album, BASta! 三, which centers around the theme of ‘repetition.’ Repetition serves as the foundation for rhythm, one of the key building blocks in Joris’ work. Flowing lines, depth, and relief draw the listener into a different experience of time, as if time stands still or moves differently from the existing clock.
The number three, the album's title, has deep symbolic meanings in many cultures. It represents cycles such as past-present-future or birth-life-death and is associated with creativity, harmony and optimism. In Joris' music, this number reflects the search for balance and connection. BASta! was described by New Folk Sounds as a unique blend of ‘rocking acoustics’, where the layered compositions feel like a ‘sensual instrumental massage’ with a dynamic interplay of soft and powerful movements.
Through his solo project BASta!, Joris brings an intense and personal musical vision to life, where the double bass not only takes center stage but also sounds like a versatile orchestra in its own right. The third album, released by Ronin Rhythm Records, will be presented live in the fall of 2024 and the spring of 2025.
