Miriam Makeba Tribute. Influential (African) female voices.
South African singer Stella Khumalo (b. 1959) developed an international musical career, collaborating in numerous projects. She received the Arts & Culture honorary award for her contribution to South African music, in conjunction with the Tribute AwardsIn 2015, she received a Lifetime achievement Award at the Backing Voices Sessions Musicians Awards.
In 2021, Stella contacted Thomas Noël whom she knew from previous musical collaborations with the proposal to develop a program around the repertoire of Miriam Makeba (1932-2008) and other strong African women and female artists. Miriam Makeba is a monument, a singer and activist whose voice made a huge impact in the struggle against racial segregation, colonialism, inequality and racism. Today, her legacy is the inspiration for music and activism of new generations of musicians and performers.

Stella & Thomas start from Makeba's repertoire and themes and combine them with their own lyrics and stories. They elaborate the whole into a broad plea for dignity, for tangible social and gender equality in society.
