Ghent Folk Violin Project, also known as GFVP, is making its return. After several years of silence, the desire to perform together on stage again was simply too strong. The unique sound of four 'swinging' folk violins, accompanied by a rhythmic guitar, remains at the heart of their music, blending traditional and new compositions, now enriched by an additional decade of stage experience. Despite the diverse backgrounds of the four violinists, their playing is remarkably unified. The violins merge beautifully into a tight, almost vibrato-free sound. Add the fantastic support of the guitar, and the result is an incredibly diverse mix of folk, classical, world music, and jazz.
At the end of March 2025, GFVP will release their new album OGOPOGO with Homerecords, named after a mythical Canadian creature. Just like the legend it draws from, the music blends traditions and stories full of surprises, where truth matters less than the ever-evolving myth. With this album, GFVP continues a rich and imaginative tradition. The quintet—violinists Wouter Vandenabeele, Lotte Remmen, Anouk Sanczuk, Naomi Vercauteren, and guitarist Jeroen Knapen—will present the album live!
